N.Y. Area Super Bowl May Bring Hundreds of Millions in 2014

The New Meadowlands Stadium has been selected as the first Super Bowl host site that's neither in a warm weather city nor under a dome. Take that, Florida. Cold weather be damned, the biggest game in the world is going to be played in the greatest city in the world.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell says the success of the 2014 Super Bowl slated for Meadowlands Stadium will determine whether more championships are played at undomed cold-weather sites.

The annual Super Bowl features the National Conference champions against the American Conference champions in pro football's biggest event of the year. The first Super Bowl game was played in January, 1967 after the 1966 season, and has grown to become a colossal sports event with tremendous media hype and pro football mania. Will you be there to see the next Super Bowl MVP hoist the Lombardi Trophy? Want to go to the game and stay close by at a great hotel? Super Bowl Sunday tickets are the hardest tickets in all of sports to purchase as you near kickoff. Getting in early is the best way to secure a great seat at a low cost!

Meadowlands hotel rooms are booked by corporate event planners, media executives and others involved in arranging sports travel accommodations. The glitz of game day would grow jobs at the stadium and around the area for a full month, as fans flock to New York to soak in the Super Bowl experience, according to Mark Lamping, CEO of the the New Meadowlands Stadium. The 2014 Super Bowl will cater to 82,500 ticket-holders, and another 150,000 out-of-towners lured in by the excitement of the NFL's biggest game.

That should mean big gains for hotels. In other cities, host hotels have jacked up rates up to 160% during the week of the title game. If you to find Short Term Vacation Home Rental or Hotels for your favorite Bowl Game or NFL Football game such as the Superbowl, you've come to the right place.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and New York Gov. David Paterson downplayed the possibility of snow and the cold spoiling what is the first Super Bowl to be awarded to a northern open-air stadium in the middle of winter.

Paterson said that bad weather has made some football games special, like the Ice Bowl in 1967 or the Colts-Giants title game in 1958.

"We will now have a game with many unanticipated moments,'' Paterson said. "It's the unanticipated moments we remember.''

One offshore sports book has already established the over-under for game day temperature for the Super Bowl at 34 1/2 degrees. The odds on snow falling is 6-1 and on not falling 1-12.

American Dream fixes will be costly

East Rutherford, NJ (The Record) JULY 1, 2011

The new developer of American Dream Meadowlands will spend tens of millions of dollars to replace elevator and escalator machinery, install vestibules and shore up the sinking ground floor of a parking garage adjacent to the 2 million-square-foot project.

The structure formerly known as Xanadu, now called American Dream Meadowlands.

Sections of the ground floor of the main parking deck near the Izod Center have sunk about 6 inches because of the hasty way in which the deck was constructed and opened in October 2005.

And more than 40 escalators and several elevators at the former Xanadu complex have been sitting dormant, without power, for several years, according to Maureen Bausch, a spokeswoman for Mall of America in Minneapolis, which is a subsidiary of Triple Five, American Dream's developer. As a result, wheels inside the escalators must be replaced, and several elevators suffer from rust and corrosion, Bausch said. Some of the building's air conditioners are in the same state of disrepair, she said.

Bausch added that vestibules at the entrances "are critical to maintain the proper air temperature in the building." Beyond the repairs and retrofitting, other major changes are afoot.

"Almost everything you see inside, all the wall and floor coverings, the handrails and finishing elements, will all be torn out," Hagen said. "The floor tiles, as installed, are perfectly fine, but we will tear them out and throw them away because we have a different idea of what this should look like. The inside as built looks more like a casino than what should be a relaxing experience. We want our guests to have a calming, less busy experience."

Triple Five also has promised to revamp the almost universally unpopular multicolored façade.

Met Life in talks for naming rights to New Meadowlands Stadium

East Rutherford, NJ (AHN Sports) June 28, 2011 – According to a report MetLife is in talks to acquire the naming rights to the New Meadowlands Stadium.

The stadium will be the site of the 2014 Super Bowl and the home of the New York Jets and Giants.

MetLife already pays about $8 million a year as one of four smaller “cornerstone” sponsors at the stadium. The insurer is in talks to upgrade to a full-blown, 20-year naming rights deal in the range of $17 million to $18 million a year, according to the Sports Business Journal.

The other cornerstone partners are Verizon, Anheuser-Busch and PepsiCo.

Neither team nor the insurance company would comment on the report.

The stadium was expected to earn a record $30 million a year or more for its naming-rights deal but the downturn in the economy ended that possibility.

The search for a naming sponsor was stalled out until it got a boost as the teams won a bid to host the 2014 Super Bowl.

With the deal, Met Life would be able to float its two blimps — “Snoopy One” and “Snoopy Two” over the stadium and the name would be MetLife Stadium.

Newark, N.J. (WSJ) Apr 04, 2011 Signature Flight Support To Invest In Newark Terminal

The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey's Board of Commissioners has approved a lease extension with Signature Flight Support Corp. and a new first-class lounge for Virgin Atlantic Airlines at Newark Liberty International.

The Signature agreement allows the company to handle private flights at Newark Liberty through August 2024 with its continued lease of Hangar 15 and 11 acres of property. Signature agreed to invest $11 million before the Super Bowl in 2014 for a new passenger terminal and ramp renovations, initiatives that are expected to result in 80 jobs, $4 million in wages and $19.5 million in economic activity over the project's life, the port authority said.

Separately, Virgin Atlantic will sign an 11-year lease for a nearly 5,000-square-foot lounge for passengers at Terminal B, which will mean $4.4 million in rent, the port authority said. The airline agreed to pay for an estimated $3.5 million worth of improvements to the lounge prior to the Super Bowl.

Newark, N.J. (CNBC) Apr 01, 2011—A billion dollars for a Bud? That's what Anheuser Busch plans to pay, to be the official beer of the NFL.

The deal, reported at six years and $1.2 billion, did include the right to the NFL shield and the use of all the logos. What didn't it include? Well, team deals are separately negotiated and there is no advertising exclusivity for any game except for the Super Bowl.

The package did include a two-year extension (through 2014) on exclusive beer rights for the Super Bowl broadcast.

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) Feb 4, 2011— New Jersey is looking ahead while sports fans prepare for Sunday's Super Bowl.

Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno, along with officials from the Port Authority and the owner of the Newark Liberty International Airport Marriott, say renovation of the hotel is the first step in a wider strategy to bring tourists to New Jersey for the 2014 Super Bowl at the New Meadowlands Stadium.

Port Authority officials, speaking at the Marriott Friday, said they agreed to extend the hotel's airport lease for 40 years. In exchange, Host Hotels and Resorts, which owns the hotel, has agreed to invest $164 million to upgrade the facility and expand its capacity.

The move is expected to create more than 250 jobs and generate an estimated $60 million in economic activity for New Jersey.
